How do you know if your a good instructor?
When your students are awake and involved
You have to start by knowing yourself and your field of expertise, but the real gauge of your teaching skills will come from your students. If you are able to connect with your students, keep them motivated and coming to class, along with doing well on exam and competencies, you must be doing soemthing right!
I couldn't agree more with the other posts on this subject - student feedback is going to be key. Also, you know the subject or else you would not have even considered teaching it - if you know it you should be comfortable with the subject matter.
Hello... I would say, know yourself. We always need to look within ourselves. What do I know best and least? what rae my strength and weeknesses?
Solicit feedback from students regularly as we may have diverse groups of students in our classes that may include young & old, US born and immigerants, different cultures and beliefs, ..etc.
Hi Teresita,
It starts with your own sense of ability. You can or soon will start to sense when you have done a good job with a lecture or an activity. Student evaluations are always good ways to see how you are doing as an instructor. Another would be to be evaluated by peers. They will give you an accurate picture of how you are doing. Set personal goals in the area of instructional improvement and then see if you have met them. All of these things will tell you if you are a good instructor because you will know it and feel it as you complete each class.
