Motivation

I beleive that motivation is the key to successful:
1) teaching
2) learning
3) overall student satisfaction

Hi Robert,
The points you make are so important. You are offering information and content about two parts of every career. The skill and knowledge specific to the field and the soft skills needed for workplace success. The students need expertise in both if they are going to succeed.
Gary

One way I have found to help the student's motivation is to relate the class experience to real life. For example, in the area of communication we not only discuss the topic itself, but also how it helps to have good communication skills, how to effectively use these skills in the workplace, and how not to use these skills for personal advancement or satisfaction in the workplace.

Motivation is important to students of all ages.
It is one the way that a teacher/instructor can boost up a student's self esteem.
However, it is also important for the student to have his/her inner motivation. Without this, he/she will easily give up when facing with unexpected challenges.

Keeping students focused on their end goal--license or certification is important. By sharing my own success in the field and keeping current on board requirements I keep reminding my students that their objective is passing the boards , otherwise all their hard work means nothing. In addition discussing job opportunities, pay and the chance to improve their lives through there career choice offers incentive and motivation--many of our students come from families where few family members have gone to college and/or are from low income earners. Stressing that all the components of our program are directed towards high board passing rates is good motivation for our students.

Both these posts are accurate. Are there suggestions for techniques to motivate?

without getting our students motivated they won't get the most out of training
