Learning the differences between students
I have found that your experience grows as you teach more classes and deal with a diverse variety of students. The problem then occurs when you have that one student in the class who needs that extra attention or has a different way of working and learning about your students individually and collectively as a whole would help take care of how you teach. I definitely think that the instructional style section was helpful!
I will begin teaching for the first time on January 4th 2010. I was considering doing something fun on the first day such as giving a personality test to the students. I took one recently that really helped me understand a lot about my habits, likes, dislikes, strengths, and weaknesses. I was amazed at how much I learned about myself! I was thinking this would help me learn about each student and even help them understand themseleves better and ultimately help them be better students. Has anyone done this? How do most of you effectively learn about your students' personalities?
The suggestion on asking those instructors with more experience how their style brings out more of their students and also it helps in the growth of you as an instructor was very beneficial.
Understanding the needs of the students either because of personal or community ifluence can affect the way you as an instructor teach as well as how the subject taught will be retained and even accepted by the student.
Being flexible and to addapt to the needs of the student with different educational level or that belongs to a different community is very important.
Thanks for the tips.
