Your Instructional Style

Hi Gary,

How can an instructor improve their instructional style to really reach out to their students especially when the students are coming from different/diverse demographics. Some are slow-learner, some are fast-learner, others are focused on their goals while others are "just there" still trying to figure out what they really wanted in life.

Hi Rosita,
Great way to introduce a class and get students engaged. This is what being an instructional delivery expert is all about. You are setting the stage for success if your students are willing to put forth the effort.

Hi Gary,

Most of my classes have a diverse student load. I start the term by having them fill out an "expectations from the class/me, and their personal learning styles" form. Within an matter of the first couple of weeks, I am able to identify who is strong in the class and who needs more help. I construct "in-class" activities where I pair up these students and have them complete assignments that will lead them to be successful.

I always start a new topic with some kind of interactive introduction, not just a boring powerpoint.

As a new instructor, I am AlWAYS looking for new. interesting, exciting way to teach the course content that can be less than exciting, but necessary to learn

I enjoy instructing diversified groups of students.

I have observed learning groups made up of difiversified students of various backgrounds and experiences, work together as good teams, helping the less experienced students and motivating the ones who were not focusing much on their studies. Most of the time, the groups strive hard for all to succeed .

Hi Ferdinand,
I use learning groups when I have classes that are very diverse in abilities and knowledge. These teams help each other to complete projects. The coaching and mentoring that goes on in these groups helps to keep everyone moving forward in their learning. Also, the more experienced students help "trying to find out where I am going" students with suggestions and ideas about how the course fits into their career training.
