Instructors as role models for students

Instructors should always show good examples to the students from professional appearance, to their coduct and presentation in both the classroom and clincal areas. This will allow a good command of the students.

Hi Kristen,
I agree with you about the need for instructors to always remember they are instructors. We are models by virtue of being instructors plus we reflect the career field so it is important as we say to reflect this without trying to do what the instructor did in your husband's class.
Gary

Absolutely!

My husband recently took a class in Business Law where the instructor used a lot of swear words during his presentation. We think he was trying to make a connection to the younger students that primarily made up the class. This was 100% wrong in my mind. If this instructor was THE role model for one of those students, what did he or she just learn????

As I worked in HR for several years for a company, one of the largest complaints was about lack of professionalism in the younger employees; therefore, it is critical that professionalism be modeled at all times. Some things are not just "old school," but rather the right way to do things!

True. Students these days expect to see a great deal of professionalism from instructors.

Some of tthe chef intructors have a motto at my school: :"Lead by example". The students are always watching and need that particular role model to look up to. Also, we enforce strict dress code at the school and tardiness is not acceptable. If we were not to follow our own rules how can we expect the students to? It all refers back to being a strong leader.
