Nurse as an Intructor: Do's and Dont's

Dont's:
1.Dont try to prove to your students that you're the smartest.
2.Dont Babysit them

Do's:
1.Convince them how you love teaching and how you like the subject matter you're teaching.
2.Organize thoughts, plans, accomplishments in a timely manner.

Hi Joan,
Good words to guide all of us instructors. Simple step by step ways to set the climate for the class.
Thanks for sharing with us.
Gary

Don't worry because not every student likes you. Not everyone will. It's not YOU.

Don't be afraid to let them know you don't know everything about the subject. Tell them you will find the answer and get back to them.

Do praise, encourage, and praise some more.
Do role model how them in clinicals how to proceed in emergency patient care issues calmly and professionally.

The organization is so important to establish credibility

The "do"s are easy for me. The "don't"s not quite so easy. After teaching professionals, it is quite a switch to teach students who tend to whine. My goal for this term is to establish acceptable and unacceptable behaviors early in the term and stick to them.

As a nurse I know there is always something to learn. There is no possible way to know everythng.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for the Do's and Don't. They are concise and to the point and will help instructors get off to a good start with their students.
