Eric,
Good point. A simple thing that has powerful implications for student behavior and management. Be the role model for them so you can encourage their development as on time and accountable workers.

never be late is my rule,if your show your student that you are always on time ,they will understand that you care about them and what you do
I agree. The instructor should not be setting this precedent, and allowing students to continue to be late without addressing it in class only wastes the other student's time.
I agree with you Leslie. I utilize many different materials while planning. Not only do I create PowerPoint presentations, but I also find videos can be extremely helpful. I teach an Introduction to Psychology class which tends to basic theories so any and all visual aides facilitate student learning. I find youtube videos can be extremely helpful and not too lengthy to complement a lecture.
Also, the more information is the better in my opinion. Not only will it encompass enough class time, but it will typically provide additional examples to amplify learning.
I agree that being late is a poor reflection of the instructor and the school and sets a bad example for students. They will follow the instructor's habits and will likely be late.
As for other parts of planning, when I think deeply and carefully about the material to teach as I outlined in my syllabus, I find I look for pictures, books, slide shows and other resurces to keep my student's attention and keep them interested.
My class goes better when I have more info than less info so I can shift to different dynamics as the energy of the classroom shifts during a 5 hour long class.
