New Instructor

Much like many of you, I am a first time instructor. Although there is so much to learn from other instructors, I do believe that new instructors have something to bring to the table also. Having recently been a student, I try to reflect on what my intructors did to be effective teachers and incorporate those things into my classes.

Hi Katie,

I agree with Dr. Meers. New instructors do bring new ideas to the classroom. As a fairly young professor myself, I also find that collaboration between new and more experienced faculty is essential. I utilized more experienced faculty to learn how to better teach the material. After all, they have many more classroom hours than I do and have seen more students struggle with the material. I also find that the more experienced faculty are energized by my passion for teaching and thoroughly enjoy utilizing some of the new demonstrations that I utilize.
