New Instructor

This is my first time teaching a topic that I love and I feel verry confortable with the material. My only challenge is getting students with little patience to enjoy when it comes to practicing in the Lab.Is there any way to make it easy for them.

Tom,
They will stay engaged more and will see greater application of the content with this method. I wish you much success in your teaching efforts.

Gary has a great idea, a short lecture and then a lab. I think Students will usually retain info better if we can touch more than one of their senses.

Gary has good ideas. Presenting the material in small chunks for the students to try in lab helps the quicker students to move ahead faster and keep their interest, while not discouraging the students who feel more challenged by the material.

Hi Naima,
This is very common with students. They want to rush to the conclusion of their activities. I break down their work in segments so they can only go so far before they have to come to me for the next segment. This way if they rush the assignment they have only messed up on segment which is easier for me to get them to back up and do it right before going on. This way they can see learning progress.

Hi Gary,
My students are happy to be in the lab but some of them get frasturated verry fast.I advise them to take their time and try over and over but they want to get it without having to work hard at it.

Hi Naima,
If you could provide me with a little more information about the challenges you are facing with helping your students be motivated in the labs I will be glad to respond. Generally, students get really excited when they get to take the content of their classes to the lab and apply it.
Thanks for your follow up on this.
