Love Your Subject..Love Your Students
Over the years, I have found many educators in love with their subject area. However, they are not in love with the students they serve. In fact, some instructors are "afraid" of the students they serve. It is because of this fear, instructors are ineffective. Fall in love with your students and watch your love of your subject matter come alive. Leea Power
Wayne,
Good question and one that comes up often. Look at your course content and see if there are different ways of presenting the material beyond just lecture. For example, can you have students prepare mini-lessons on a topic and demonstrate the content. This way they will be using reading, visualization, and auditory preferences. Can you use role playing or lab work to get the content across, this way the students will be using their tactile preferences to learn. The key is to offer variety to your delivery so you can keep them engaged.

I am a brand new teacher in a vo-tech school and
I am thinking about your response about teaching to each students style of learning, can you give me some examples of how you would teach one topic
to different style learners at the same time?
I agree. Its not like work when your teaching something your so passionate about, it's fun to pass it on to your students.
Lavete,
Great instructional style to have. You are offering student centered instruction. The students will respect you and your efforts as a result of your style and enthusiasm.

In my many years of teaching, the one thing that I have always tried to display is my strong interest in the subject that I am teaching. As instructors we should always understand and know that we do not select the type of students that we are given. Therefore, my teaching style has always been that of one that reaches the attention of each student. There are many types of learners and that is something that I always keep in mind when I am delivering my lectures. Everyday I walk into the classroom with a smile, loud and clear voice, professional appearance and always prompt. My attitude in class may not reach every student in class but if I could reach at least one...I am a happy camper!
Hi Evangeline,
Good point about instructor enthusiasm. Without it the class is not going to gel and move forward. It is for sure if the instructor is not excited about the subject matter the students aren't going to be.
Gary
When you love subject your enthusiasm shows and this creates a positive ambiance in your room. Also find one positive or one thing that you like in each of your students and remember we are different yet alike. The Golden is not archiac just not used enough.
