Supporting Students Through Non Traditional Technology

I have several students that are struggling with life challenges. They have housing, financial and family issues. At least once a week, I will text a student and give them words of encouragment. I personally feel that our job is to meet learners where they are in today's ever changing technological world. Do you agree? If so, what non-traditional measures have you taken to reach out to your students .... to ensure success?

I find that encouraging students to give back to their community, regardless of their socioeconomic status, is a helpful way to encourage them. Quite often, there are populations within your community that are even less fortunate and in need of assistance. Particularly for those seeking health care careers, this is a great opportunity to maintain the motivation for helping others. Volunteering is always a nice way to feel better about yourself and your surroundings.

Krista,
Thank you so much for kind words. I wish you continued teaching success.

Thanks. This class has been a huge help with a lot of great advice!

Krista,
Trust me it will get better once you have gained some experience and developed a routine for preparing for and delivery content. Then you will be able to look at some other aspects of instructional delivery and development.

To be honest, I haven't gotten this far yet. I'm working on getting used to being a new instructor and learning all there is to be done with the job itself. I'm having a really hard time keeping my head above water with all there is to do. I'd like nothing more than to be there for my students, however I haven't been able to find the time to do things like this. I'm hoping once I get more used to this new role, I'll be able to juggle all the responsibilities with more ease and less stress.
