Technical Instruction Techniques

As an instructor some techniques we can use to engage students when teaching topics which may require more technical aptitude?

Discussion Boards - usually present an initial challenges for students. Having good collaboration skills usually helps students 'focus' not only on the topic, but less on the technological aspects required for participating in online discussions.

Try posting in the DB early, as a way to encourage students to participate; while demonstrating your teaching style via your personality.

I have been teaching for several years. When I taught nursing, and more specifically, anatomy, I would take my students to see autopsies. Seeing is believing. I believe in combining audio, visual, and kinesthetic techniques. For example, when I teach about a colostomy (GI), I first have to provide a time-limited lecture. I will use Power Point, paper drawings, and the students can take notes. Physically, I will have the equipment available for the students to touch. To add some fun to the whole process, I may ask a student to let me apply a colostomy and make a contest out of it. I will ask the students to guess who is wearing it and give out pieces of candy to the winners. When you teach, you have to have fun and the students will have fun and learn at the same time.
