Attitude

What is the best recourse in minimizing the attitudes amongst students in the classroom?

Jessica,
Sounds like you are in a great situation. To be excited about what you are doing and having administrative support is wonderful. Enjoy your teaching success!

Dr. Gary Meers

In my classroom I demonstrate from day one a positive upbeat attitude that is contagious. I also have the support of my schools administration.

Hi Pamela,
I have found that making sure the precedent is set on day one about the type of attitudes students have is vitally important.

It is first imperative that we as instructors have a exempliary attitude ourselves so that we set the first examples. Students are the products of their environment so it is important that our attitudes reflect what we expect of them.

I have a motto "If I wake up, the rest of my day is dictated by my attitude"

How we handle things is a direct reflection of our attitudes. It is not always what the person says to you, but how you react to it. Behind every action is a reaction.

Attitude is based on a myriad of things all controlled by us.
How we feel (emotions)
How we understand (intellect)
How we react (disposition)

I have taught customer service classes in the past and one of the most important things to any work environment is how you interact with first the person you are dealing with.

On even our worse day (which occasionally we have) we should always remember, that no matter what we are going through it is not the fault nor should be the concern of the person on the other side of that conversation.

We must learn to control our attitudes, which in essence is simply learning how to control our emotions.

We can either be positive people and find the good in any given situation. Or we can be negative people and always focus on the bad of any situation.

I teach my students to "ALWAYS" find some good in anything that happens and deal with the situation with a positive outlook. It will make whatever is going on much more tolerable, and their lives will be a whole lost less stressful.

Pamela,
Not exactly sure what you mean in terms of attitudes. Are the students acting out and have negative attitudes or are their attitudes that they just don't care about being in the class or school?
Thanks for any helps you can give on this.
Gary
