Not being pals

I believe one area men have to be careful of is bonding about sports in the classroom. This can go over the line in student teacher relations.

BYGINA,
This is what we call "hooking" them just like fishing. We got to have some "bait" to get them interested and then we can develop our topics from there.

I AGREE SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO TALK ON SUBJECTS THAT WILL SOME HOW CATCH THE STUDENTS ATTENTION.

I totally agree with what you are pointing out, but it does not just apply to men and sports. It can be dangerous territory to bond with any shared interest between the student and instructor. Such bonding and detraction from class time can create jealousy and anger from other students.

On the other side of the coin, using student interests to catch and hold their attention in the classroom can be a very rewarding strategy.

It can be a struggle trying to decide how much of this sort of thing to allow in the classroom. Trial and error and advice from teachers who have experiences in this area would be a good place to start I guess.
