HELP
I feel like I am having a difficult time reaching the majority of my students. Do I feel they like me yes but that sad boring look on their face that I see when I look at them drives me crazy
I am a new member of the Veterinary Technology faculty. My first class will be laboratory techniques which includes diagnostic sampling, parasitology for all species, urinalysis, and microbiology in the veterinary hospital. The parasitlogy is extensive. Thanks for your help!
Leslie,
There are a number of different and age appropriate strategies that you can use. What subject do you teach? When I know that I will be glad to share with you some strategies that will get your students engaged and learning. Thanks.

How do you find engaging activities that do not seem juvenile? Often times I feel like the suggestions are things I did in elementary school and not something I was offered in my college education. If I had been offered jello molds I would have thought it was a waste of time and money.
Paul,
Good variety of instruction. By using both student involvement, personal experiences and student feedback you are getting a very comprehensive picture of how effective you are as an instructor.

I look for every opportunity to give the students a hands on experience, even to the point of having them come up to the board to show, and explain, what it is they are asking. Then I use an experience out of my life to bolster any comments that were positive and relevant to the subject. Student participation is a key part of my instruction. It gets the students involved in participating with the class.
Douglas,
Students love to hear stories about their instructor's experiences so keep on incorporating them into your instructional delivery.

I would consider using some real life experiences you have had so you can add some "reality" to the classroom environment.
Rashanda,
Are there any small group activities, case studies, or other learning strategies you could use to engage your students? Set up mini-lectures (15-20 minutes) and then do an activity. This will help the students be focused on the content and then application of the material being offered.
