Engaging the students
bring them in not by collective bargining, you give me this and I give you that but by finding a common ground or interest and going from their.
Rosie,
I like the way you put yourself in the class and ask the question about your effectiveness in relation to how your students see and connect with you. I think this strategy is effective in shaping your instructional planning and delivery. Thank you for sharing this perspective with us.

As a natural guide that I am I found very easy to engage students, through correlation of material presented in relation of future career, profession or goals. I always think, if i will be sitting in x or y class having me as the instructor or professor, would I drop or would I finish this course or class? This question aids me into finding avenues and develop further creativity and paths to keep students alert and engaged in the subject I teach.
Rosie,
Claudia,
I teach a course that is required for state certification so I can relate to what you are saying. I take it as a challenge to try and get the students engaged and realizing that what I am offering will have value to their career and future.

I must engage participants everyday through workshops who really do not want to be there. It is a requirement for unemployment insurance to take job search workshops, so engaging the audience is a challenge but one that I continue to work with
Robert,
Good point and one instructors need to remember as they set up the format through which the course will operate.
