Role Model

To me one of the most important things in teaching is leading by example. Hands down!!!!! There is no way to gain respect and trust with a do as I say not as I do attitude.

Dahlia,
Right you are about the need for modeling of expectations and professionalism. If the instructors don't reflect it then it won't happen.

The drive behind any learning environment is modeling from the leader. With that said, the instructor sets the tone for policy adherance and respect. If instructors reveal they are dis-organized, unprepared and unconcerned then how can we expect students to comply?

First impression is very critical to overall respect and the drive in learning

Jennifer,
I agree because you are increasing the value of your content this way. You are helping your students to make application and see relevance to the subject matter through the sharing of your work experiences.

I believe that every example we discuss about our experience in the field that we are teaching, builds a bigger picture about ourselves to the students and therefore supports us as being a positive role model for the students.

Patricia,
I agree. Sometimes we don't really know what impact we have made until years later when a former student lets us know how much we impacted his or her life and helped them to become the success they are.

I believe as educators we truly inspire and play a big role in our students future, we can truly make a positive impact by showing we care and demonstrating in every single class our passion for our craft

Patty

David,
Well said. We are models in all that we do so it is important to remember this and always reflect our best when providing learning leadership to our students.

Being on time in class,an instructor must look carefully at all behavior.Develop a reputation, we the instructors are the role model for all the students.

we as educators can't have the charles barkley attitude of not being role models. we have no idea how big of an inpact we have on our students to the point that some of them become carbon copies of us, so it's up to us to eather be a Great role model or a bad one.

James,
Yes!!!!!!!! You are the model for what you want your students to learn and the behavior you want them to display in relation to your field. We must not only talk but also walk our expectations.
