Motivating Students
Students enjoy projects, they have the opportunity to research, convey and showcase what they have learn. I have discovered that Projects motivate my students.
Martin,
I am a big fan of cases studies as they help my students to see both relevance and application. In your field they are even more powerful due to the amount of creativity needed to solve design challenges.

I use case studies as well In my graphic design classes. I find that seeing good solutions to the design problems they are about to address in their own projects encourages, exites and motivates them.
I agree that projects are very effective in engaging students in the classroom.

Delores,
I like using group projects as well as case studies and application projects. The more application or hands on the more relevance students attach to our content.

I motivate my student with hand on projects. I believe that with group projects will help student to learn how to work with each other’s and to encourage each other’s. With my life experience I try to let them know that what the situation you can step over it and keep on moving up.
Cesar,
I use case studies in my classes for this reason as well. Application projects that enables students to see the relevancy of what they are studying helps them to realize they are moving closer to their career goals.

Tiameeka,
Good way to provide support and build the confidence of your adult students. They need early success in the course so they can see that they can and will be successful. This is when they really start to become engaged in the course.

I would have to agree. When working with adult students, I think they find it rewarding to do a project because you have some coming in the door, already thinking they are too old or past time for them to complete college. When in fact we know that is furthest from the truth. But completing projects, does help them to research the topic, learn it, and have a personal sense of accomplishment and achievement on their own personal level.
