The Dominating Student

As an instructor, how do you manage or deal with a student who wants to dominate every discussion and answer every question that you have presented?

Alman,
Start by having a private conversation with the student and explain that other students need to be able to ask questions and contribute to the class discussions. Often this gentle reminder is enough to get the cooperation of the student. If that does not work then you can limit the contribution that each student can make to a discussion. Such as each student is allowed to ask two questions per session. This gives you control over the amount of talking this student can do. Another way is to have all students write down their questions on 3X5 cards and give them to you. You read the questions and then give your response and have other students you call upon give their input. I have found by this time the student gets the message I don't have any problems with him or her from then on.
