Planning
If you dont plan you will get stuck. Plan for questions that could be asked.
Hi Youngmee,
This is always a challenge for instructors when it comes to getting all students to contribute to the class equally. What have you found to be an effective way of accomplishing this?
Gary
In classes some students may talk too much, while others never volunteer a sentence. preparation/Planning for handling such situations is also important.
It is not that most people's plans fail it is rather that most people fail to plan.
Planning is an important part of every day in class, if you expect to get goals accomplished on time. However, sometimes we have shortened classes due to holidays, etc... These classes have to be planned out ahead of time. It can be a challenge to not skimp on the materials or the amount of learning that the students need, when you have less time to teach them. Our classes are 3 weeks in length, so just missing 1 or 2 days due to a holiday or other event puts a strain on the students and the instructor to get the course objectives completed on time.
A well planned instruction will benefit the students and provide self confidence to the instructor.
As indicated in the three roles of the instructor, model, manager and motivator, planning is an influencing factor to consider in any given course. A well planned class gives the instructor the confidence of presenting the content since all the parameters of the learning environment, instructional delivery of content, resource materials etc. have been considered prior to the class presentation thus resulting in a dynamic and interactive class!!
When dealing with people of this age group it is difficult enough getting them to follow instructions, so without a plan I can't see how students can be reached.
it is true and you can't deliver to the maximum.
Planning is the key in anything you do especially in education. Otherwise you'll get bad surprises.
You are correct in saying, "having no plan you will get stuck". We must be well organized to complete any task. We stress mis en place for the students daily, can we expect anything less of ourselves. It shows to all if you have planned your lesson well or if you are just shooting from the hip. I think we owe it to everyone to do the job to the best of our ability and if we need some organizational help, don't be afraid to ask.
If you have no plan what are you showing or teaching your students
Almost every day I hear misunderstandings of a questions and about weekly hear an original answer, most unexpected. I wonder how many people watch "mythbusters" on TV?
