Course content is very important. The accuracy of the marital is most important with how fast the technical trade is changing. The engine of yesterday is so far in the past but still around. Because of systems changes and refining drivability issues with today’s fuel; we will need to make sure that we understand the manufacture and not guess what they are trying to do. The problem that I see the must are instructors guessing what is really going on with the systems and not really understanding. We are better off not saying anything at all or say I do not no, than to give the students a guess to mislead them.

You make a good point about finding out the answer to a student question. I also think this is a fun part of teaching when I get a chance to explore a new area seeking an answer to a student question. It helps me to grow in my knowledge base.

with technology changing rapidly i agree if you dont know an answer find out because students know if your making up and answer
Majority of manufacturers will not give information about how systems really work.
Some 'educated guesses' may be necessary, as long as its pointed out it is speculation and accurate information is not available.
Occasionally, information released by on manufacturer may be applicable to another so its not a good idea to limit you knowledge......
I agree with the growing technology of today if the instructor does not know he should admit it and look for the answer rather than giving a wrong answer.This way everyone wins.
