lesson plan
a proper lesson plan does provide stucture for a new class.
Hi Tiffany,
Develop a total course outline and then break the outline into teaching units. Then develop lesson plans for those units. I generally have about two weeks of lesson plans prepared so I can be flexible in my instructional approach if I need to be. You don't need to develop lesson plans for the entire course in advance. Your outline will keep you on target in terms of where you what to be at the end of the course.

I want to make sure I understand this correctly...
Am I allowed to lesson plan a day or two before each class??? I feel that I'd better teach if I planned a few days before each class because material changes, class function may change, etc.
If I lesson plan for the next twelve weeks of my course, I'm afraid I would be continuously changing it. Granted, I follow my addendum to the syllabus...
Hello Frank,
Yes a proper lesson plan provides a structure to the class and also makes Insructor look more organised and things easy for the class.

Hi Ted,
You are right about a lesson plan being of help to the instructor. The lesson plan is the road map for the day. It shows what route to take and what the destination is. This way you can stay on target for the day and the expectations for the students are clear.
Gary
I think the lesson plan is as much help to the instructor as to the student. If you have a motivated class and they know what they need to learn at least some of them will move along with little guidance.
Hi Patrick,
Planning and review are essential for teaching success. Planning reduces frustration on the part of you the instructor and the students and review serves to help the students know what they have learned and what they need to work on. Both are needed so keep up the good work.
Gary
Properly prepared lesson can make the class smooth. I also firmly believe review can help make the topic move smooth each time we teach it.
it gives you the direction you need to be to have a great class i agree
I find the same thing they want to leave thinking they know the info.
Kimberly,
I try not to give them too much information about the next class as I do not want them to pick and choose the classes they attend. I find that sometimes I have students actually ask "will I miss anything if I leave early?"

I have made it a habit to provide my students with a well-prepared lesson plan for every class.
