Planning and Preparation

How are other faculty using popular website such as youtube for their courses?

Hi Martin,
This is a good idea for several reasons. One is of course the students are learning the needed content but also by using the video links you are showing the students how to find and use other resources. This reinforces their need to be current in their field and knowledgeable of the resources that are out there for them.

I have used some video links or interactive links in many courses to help reinforce learning. For example during precision measurments I have used another schools online interactive links to help student grasp the differences in SAE micromenter and Metric micrometers

I have used it for Math related videos to lighten up the mood and get students more comfortable in the classroom. A good example is the Ma and Pa kettle math video.

Very useful on special projects

Hi Daniel,
Right you are. It is always fun to be working through the PP slides and then all of a sudden a video pops on and reinforces the points that are being made. The students really like this approach and start looking for when the videos are going to come in.
Gary

We have used it quite successfully in our coursework. Choosing the correct video to use, having it cued or imbedded in a powerpoint prior to class is of course essential. Some of the videos available are quite helpful in reaching younger students.
