Planning
Having a solid plan for your class is very important
Hi Cinthya,
If at all possible the first day you have class do a number of activities that you are very comfortable with and know the students will enjoy doing. Use an icebreaker to get the talking and laughing among each other. This will give you time to get settled into the course and ready to be the class leader. Try to have fun the first class while sharing your syllabus, expectations and information about the assignments. As the class progresses you will find that it is going better than you expected and you are not as nervous as you thought you would be. Aspire to inspire your students and you will great!
Gary
I am trying to plan as best as I can for my first class meeting, but feel very stressed with time as I only have 1 week to prepare. I plan to review the syllabus and make sure I cover important points, review the lecture material the students will be receiving prior to my skills lab, and review the books to be sure that there are no descrepancies in what I am teaching and what they are reading. I am doing my best and will hopefully be well prepared for the first day and the remainder of the term.
Hi Mary,
Right you are. Things do happen that bring about the need for changes within the planning structure. So make the plans and then have alternative plans available when the class schedule gets thrown off.
Gary
Plan are good but the are only format leading to the goal. Unforseen circumstances can occur and the format may need to be alter to accommendate the change in plan.
Planning lay out theformat you will follow and the class progress through the topics
Planning shows the students that you care about their education.
You have to make a plan and stick to.
Hi Rochele,
This saying really sums it up. We can't afford to not plan because if we do we get the results you mention in the quote and that is not good teaching.
Gary
We have all heard the saying if you fail to plan then you plan to fail.... planning makes you organized and it helps the students see that you take your job seriously
