Class Addendum
Over the years of teaching, I have developed an outstanding way of designing a course addendum. I break down the addendum in to four categories. First, Units or weeks, second, Assignments, third, test or quizzes and fourth, any lab skill assignments that are being preformed that unit. The student will have a week by week understanding of what is being covered and due each week. This will give the student a better understanding of how the course will proceed in the coming weeks.
My individual addendum also includes policy and procedures for my classroom which include our campus cell phone policy, make-up time, food and drink in the classroom, attendance expectations, missed quizzes and exams.
Heading into their careers, it is important the students realize the importance of following policy & procedures.
Hi Symantha,
Good way to make sure everything is covered for the students as well as giving you a point of reference in case a student raises a question. This way there will be less misunderstanding and more forward progress.

In my addendum, I included classroom guidelines such as the cell phone policy, late homework, food and drink in the classroom, attendance expectations, missed quizzes and exams. It is important to cover these topics in the very beginning so that students are clear about what is and is not acceptable. If questions are raised by a student later in the semester/quarter, I refer back to the addendum with them.
That's a great idea - I've done something kind of similar. I also use the addendum to state specific rules. For example, I am very strict about cell phones in my classroom. I use the addendum to clearly spell out my policies on this subject because it is not covered in the main syllabus or in the student handbook.
This sounds like a great way to give this information to the students. Thanks for sharing.
