Time management and being prepared should be the most important cause
By setting the example you are showing them how important this class is to you as the instructor and that it should be just as important to them. It will only help them as they move on in to their career/professional life.
Being prepared is an absolute necessity to show our students professionalism. If we set a bad example by showing up late to class, they will start to exhibit the same behavior.

For the most part I agree with that statement. I am setting an example by being early to class, maybe to answer some concerns from students. Showing them I care about them. Also if I am prepared to start class on time without interruption, then the students will start preparing themselves for the real world thru my example. On the otherhand, dont becomne a robot and just go thru the process of always being early and prepared just to set an example for the student, do it to improve yourself also.
I agree that time management is important. Avoid tardiness and always come prepared. Set an example to your students.
