I like the marker board
I frequently outline each lecture on my marker board. This way I keep focused and the stucents know as well!!
Anthony,
This sectioning of the white board really helps as you indicated to zero in students and reduce the amount of repeated questions that come up about things like due dates.

I like having the outline available in order to keep track of time, making sure we accelerate discussion and don't get stuck on one issue without leaving time to ensure we've covered everything we've set out to do.
I also like the idea of partitioning the whiteboard in order to categorize the things mentioned (i.e., quizzes, assignments, community events, etc) They want to know when the next quiz is...boom...lower right hand side of the board
Matt,
Good idea. Thanks for sharing it with us. I know it will be of help to other instructors.

We use them as well, for all the reasons above, but also include a 2nd board or easel for other thoughts. I teach at a culinary school and we use the 2nd board to draw out ideas, brainstorm, plan menus, etc, and still have the main marker board up for daily details.
Community events is a great way of tying the classroom material into the "real-world'. Thanks for sharing.
I use the marker board as well and I do believe it helps focus the students on what we are covering as well as keeps me on track. I also write reminders of quizes, project due dates, etc. on the marker board.
I try to find community events that are pertinent to our profession and make sure the students know of these events as well.
Writing the Lesson Objectives for the class period on the white board not only shows the class that you are organizes, it may ease the students that are anxious about the lesson. What will be covered, one objective or more? I Students get a sense of how the class will start and a sense of completion when the objective is completely covered.
Tom,
This is a good plan. Thanks for sharing it with us. I know it will be of help to other instructors.
