Staying Up to Date
I find it challenging trying to stay up to date on current career trends that the students may be relying upon an instructor to know. Especially when teaching in career college environment or in a field that is constantly evolving based upon industry need. This is particularly challenging when the course examines a subject that I may know 97% of the material but there is one specialty I have little to know experience with but that is the markets current hot topic.
I agree with Darron, keeping up to date with technologies are always important because they change so fast.In my trade keeping up is a must in order perform and/or service the new equipments, especially where environmental agencies are concerned. Not being able to bring that information in the classroom environment,as an instructor,it will be a disservice to the sstudents and the trade i'm in.
I think that staying up to date is great. I usually try to bring in current events for my students and then we have an open discussion.
DARRON,
You are so right. Plus, by bringing in new things it helps to keep you the instructor current and fresh in your teaching.

There are always new technologies to learn and retain and because of the world we live in. It is almost impossible to be effective and instruct based on out dated techniques and methods that will not be utilized in the field and doing diservice to our students.
Like an L.R.C. homework assignment to give a report an that subject? You all learn.
Michael,
This is a very valid point for instructors to keep in mind. Staying current is a challenge and when there is something new that we don't know about it is good when we can tap into the knowledge and experiences of our students to share what they know with us.
