Resource Material

Where is the best place to find resource material?

Scott,
Great advice for professionals to follow. The more information and contacts you can develop in your field the more knowledge and opportunities you will be able to bring to the classroom/lab. Professional growth is a constant in our profession.

This depends entirely on what subject you will be teaching. Other instructors in your field of expertise should be able to point you in the direction of sources that have been helpful to them. No matter the subject area, there are companies selling instructional resources for it. There are also professional organizations for any given field whose websites offer a wealth of resources for instructors in that field. I strongly recommend membership in a professional organization that is relevant to the subject you teach. For example, I mainly teach the sciences, so I joined the National Science Teacher's Association. They have proven an invaluable source of resource material.

Where is the best place to find resource material?
The best place to find resource materials would be in books, online, and asking fellow piers.

Eric,
What type of resource material are you seeking? A internet search will give you a number of places to start if you are seeking field specific content as well as instructional strategies. Don't forget to look at secondary and elementary sites. There are great resources listed on these sites. Take what they list and then make it age appropriate and you find that you have a lot of success with these methods. My college students really like to play games during review sessions. I reward them with food and they love that. Remember that adults are just taller children in many ways.
