I too, like to arrive early. I like to chat with the students a bit before I start.

I like to arrive early as well. I had an instructor that said "If you are on time, you are late" and that has stuck with me. There is always something to do before the students arrive in class and it gives me time to come down from the stress of driving to work and focus on the day ahead.

I agree about the going more smoothly part. When I am there early and get settled in I feel ready to go plus I know I have a taken the pulse of the class and know their mood for that day.
