I think this is a great idea for keeping the goals of the course in front of the students while showing them how they are progressing via the newsletter. The big picture point is a good one because as they wear down during the course they sometimes forget why they are there and how this course fits into their career development.

I make a weekly newsletter for my students. This will repeat what the goals are over and over. That every week that is passing the are getting closer. It keeps us all on the same page. They can't come to me with excuses on not knowing because we read this together each week.Each week new goals I think helps them focus on the big picture.

Everyone needs a clear understanding of the course because it allows key players to develop stragies to complete goals.

Good point and so important to the success of the students. Everyone in the class, instructor included needs to know where the course is headed and what the outcomes are going to be.
