Planning and Preparation

I have found that being prepared for a class session enables a more efficient learning environment.

Planning and preparation is always best for the instructor and student as well. Planning and Preparation allows the instructor to layout the most effective lessons to ensure proper learning by the student and also gives the instructor an effective way of delivering the material to the classroom of students.

Jerome,
First to help you feel more relaxed yes it does get easier the more you do it. Once you have through the course you will be able to focus on improvement areas that you want to work on. A quick review and you will be ready to go after you have taught the course a couple times.

This is just my second term teaching. I am a planner and like to feel very prepared before doing anything. I am a bit anal retentive. Just ask my wife.

For each class, I basically do everything I ask the students to do. I read the chapters, do the homework (even though I have the teacher files), do the labs, etc. etc. I delve into topics to fully understand them. I feel prepared for class, but this takes a lot of time.

Preparing for 2 classes takes more time than a full time job. Any words of advice so I don't burn myself out? And does it get easier to prepare for classes the more you do it, just like anything in life.

Thanks

Faydren,
As we know as instructors change is a constant depending on circumstances and student issues. You are right with you comments about being able to make adjustments in your instructional delivery while keeping the course moving forward. Adaptation is essential and this is something we need to learn how to do.

I concur that planning enables the class to flow smoother and it speaks to the instructor's professionalism. However,a major part of being prepared is being prepared for change. An instructor should not be cemented to lesson plans to the point where flexibility is not apparent. It is important to be able to formatively assess student knowledge, and engagement and change accordingly.

Raul,
Preparation is the foundation for teaching and learning success. So keep up your planning effort it will pay off.
