Peter,
Yes, it does and this is so important for the students to know right from the beginning. Then they can set them minds to focus on what they need to do to be successful in the course.

it will also take some of the stress from the student when they see what is expected from the class

Setting clear and concise expectations in a well written syllabus will give you a standard to hold students as well as yourself to. Students will enjoy the structure and will clear-up many questions they may have.

William,
They are the GPS system through which the course is understood and guided for successful completion. Knowing this helps the students to get settled into the course and looking forward to what they will be learning.

course guidelines are very important to the students. It gives them a blue print of the course

with guidelines to follow should make the class morr comfortable for doing the task expected of them as a student.

Jerry,
Good point. The rest of the syllabus content depends on you and what you want to say about your course and your operating polices.

Theres is no one set of guidelines for a syllabus. Your school will provide you with certain text of being legal about student service and support.

Doug,
There is no one set of guidelines for a syllabus. Your school will provide you with certain text in terms of being legal about student services and support and the rest of the syllabus content will be up to you. I try to keep my syllabus to a minimum and provide specific handouts to support specific assignments and projects.

The college has a prepared syllabus of which I can use to springboard with. Is there a limit or guideline of how in depth the syllabus should go?
