Syllabus

I think as an instructor it is important to review course syllabus so students know what to expect from the course.

I think the syllabus is an important part of the course outline, due to the fact that the students need to know what to expect when they come in to the class, and the instructor needs to be able to follow the plan to ensure the students get the information they need.

Deb,
Your comments reinforce to other instructors the value of a well prepared syllabus. You are right in terms of the syllabus getting everyone off on the right foot for the course since you have so much material to cover and skills to master in such a short period of time.

I instruct future certified nursing assistants. The course is six weeks long which includes two weeks of externship at a long term care facility.

The class moves very quickly through an 800+ page textbook plus mastering 27 different skills.

The syllabus is vital to my class. Everyone uses this piece of information to keep up with reading assignments, tests, skill check offs and clinical assignments.

My class could not get through the course without the syllabus.

Paula,
This is a must. The students need to know what the course expectations are so they can start planning on how to meet those expectations. By sharing the syllabus and all of the details of the course then everyone can have a forward focus about themselves and move toward meeting some of their career goals.
