Setting your self up for success

In the beginning extra time and effort is needed to make sure all goes well on the first day. If all goes well on the first day, it sets you up for success. I know from experience that it is much more work to recover from a bad first day of class. Do your self a favor and take the time to make sure you are prepared the first day. Someone once told me that there is no substitution for preparation. I think they were right.

This is great. The new generation of today has a problem with professional. They don't understand why employers should hold them to higher standards.

knowing the material will also help for a good first impression, just having everything set up is not all that is required.

I could not agree more. By being prepared and organized it shows your passion for the learning experience. Something that should set the class at ease.

Hi David,
You make a good point about professional behavior. Students expect us to reflect business and industry standards in expectations we have for their skill development, but sometimes they forget that they must reflect professional behavior in order to be successful. They need to know this is part of their career development and thus their career success.

In conjunction with a good syllabis, I think it's also important to let the students no exactly how high you are going to set the Bar for professional behavior.

I agree. By being prepaired on the first day you build credibility and that goes along way in supporting smooth class flow.
