First Impression is Lasting.
When you walk into the class room, posturing, the way you dress , if you are sloppy this will give the student an impression that your are easy going and you can not command respect as an instructor. Your facial expression or the tone of your voice can alienate a student.
I agree that really helps and can be done during your meet n greet whitch makes it that much easier.
Hi Joanne,
Thank you for the great comments on being a professional. It is critical that we as professional educators present ourselves as professionals. If we do it will make our jobs so much easier because we won't have to spend out time trying to correct things such as appearance after the course has started.

It is very important to present yourself on the first meeting day of instruction with sheer professionalism, absolutely. Since we value the appearance of our institution, we require that all students are well groomed accordng to the school policy regarding dress. It is very important to also present yourself to the class well groomed and following the example that the students are required to follow.
Grace;
We hold our students to professional standards of conduct and appearance, and we take them very seriously, since we are trying to develop not only technical skills but employability in them. When we set the example of appearance, preparation and confidence, they hopefully learn not just the subject matter in the class but also how to make a good first impression of their own.
First impessions are also lasting impressions. It is very important to show professionalism in dress posture and attitude at the very beginning. Respect is not a given it is earned.
Grace,
I agree that your appearance speaks to your professionalism. This is where practice and preparation makes a difference. As instructors, we have a responsibility to "model" appropriate dress. The message is very important, so our clothing and dress should not be a distraction to our presentation.

When I visit a class I pretend that I am a parent that is paying for the instruction. I sit there and determine if it is worth it. When I teach a class I also try to put myself in the parents shoes. The first impression is important but I believe that every impression is important.
Hi Grace.
Well said. It is all about being professional if we want the respect of our students. Keep up the good work.
