1st Day

The first day and meeting go along way to setting the pace of the course. Utilizing the first two hours of class for introductions and overviewing the course content provides the opportunities for both the students and instructor.

The first day is important for both insructor and learner. It gives both parties a feeling how the rest of the couse is going/needs to be presented.

1st day is the most important day in the teaching prossess becauze it is the day that you take the lead over the class start the first step in you frindship , teaching relation ship between you and the students, knowing your students as human beng with there names and what they prefer not just as a bunch of students and you are there teacher or instructor, that means to establish an acceptance not an obligance

I agree. I think taking the time for introductions and going over the syllabus. It helps you get to know the students and they get to hear what is expected of them.

Hi Soo Kim,
I have found that there is no set time for going over the syllabus class policies and operations. The allocated should be sufficient to make sure everything is covered.
The length of introductions will depend on the number of students and the ice breakers you use. I ask each student to introduce him or herself and then give a significant fact about themselves and why they are in the course. This will only take a minute or so per student.
Again the key is to set the stage for the course and to do that use what ever time it takes to do the job well.

2 hours for introductions? Is that how long most people allot for going over the syllabus, etc.?

I totally agree and I was happily surprised to see that i already cover most of the steps.

The first day in class is important as far as setting the tone of the class as well as setting guidelines for your expectations of the students.
If the students understand what is expected of them and how they can achieve success in your classroom by understanding the procedures, grading etc, teaching them the related materials will be easier for them as students and also easier for you as an instructor.
You set the tone and the 1st day is the most important day in setting the tone of the classroom.
