meeting new students frist time

Our student are from many different states so I ask them "where are you from?". I have been to many states. If I have been to their area of the USA we talk for a few seconds about that. this helps break the ice on the first day.

I agree, spending the time to get to know your students will go along way

I agree. It's important to know a little about the students. This will also help with remembering names.

That's a really good idea. Thanks for the tip.

Along the same lines as Jack has stated, find out some information about the students and tell them a bit about myself. Let them know your there for them and be accessible.

The meet and greet part of the first day of class usually helps set the tone for the rest of the class. Student are from many parts of the U.S.A. Some students come from other countries or US posessions. Some times there is a language situation that may require additional careful attention. Learning where the students are from and why the are here is a huge help the first part of day one.

Hi Jack,
The key is to establish some type of connection with that student. This is where rapport comes from and you are doing that with the introduction method you are using. Keep up the good work.
