meet and greet
Always meet and greet with smile , and know the students by name when they walk through your door it helps them feel more comfortable and makes things go more smoothly
I agree, especially when you may be nervous meeting a class for the first time. I get to class early, start chatting with a single student for a few minutes, by the time class starts... seems like you've already have been lecturing for a while.
Hi Matt,
Reading the pulse of the class is important. By doing that you can deal with any emerging issues that the students might have.

I too like to stand at the door as the students enter and make contact with each one as they enter to assess the moods of the day. I also like to ack like I am reading my email for the first five minutes or so while the roll sheet is going around. During this time I listen intently to the stories in the room to see if there are going to be any issues for the day and how the general mood is.
I have found that just a smile and saying good morning helps get things off toward a productive day.
Hi Scott,
I know your students like to be greeted, I know mine do. The simple process of saying "hi" is enough for them to know you have acknowledged that they are a part of the class and that you want them to be successful.
Gary
I greet my students every day and give them respect as they walk in, even the ones who try to sneak in late. I do believe they do like it and they do welcome it even if they don't show it.
Hi Michael,
I like your approach. I am sure that your students look forward to what they are going to learn that day. You make them feel comfortable and welcome in the class. Keep up the good work.
Gary
I am Mike murrill and every morning I always meet and greet my students I feel as if they look forward to me being there and it shows them you care and helps get there day started on the right foot. I some times take it one step further and give them a hand out so they can get started as soon as they sit down.
On the first day of class I spend time having students stand and give us their name and talk about some of their goals and hobbies, this way I get to know them a little better and it also seems to break the ice so to speak and the students seem to be more at ease with other, sometimes we even manage to set up car pools with some students that live close to each other. It's a great way to start the first day.
Meet and greet it has its purposes 1 to greet the student and assess their attitudes and professionalism
Hi George,
You are right about getting up and going to the students. You have to extend yourself if you are going to be seen as someone that cares about student success.
Gary
That always works for me and also builds a good repore with each other.
The meet and greet gets things off to a better start you can welcome the students and show them that you actually care enough about them to move from your seat to the doorway to meet them. It also gives you an idea of the mood of the class and you are able to spot and dress codes violations and things like that.
I agree. This also gives you a good idea on how the students are feeling as well.
I agree it's a great idea to meet and greet on the first day the student's feel welcome and are more receptive when you start class on the first day!things seem to go smoother.
Hi Dan,
Yes it does. A warm greeting helps to set the stage for how the class is going to go that day.
Gary
Greeting the students always starts the day of better
