Addendums
Addendums are instructor modifications to the Syllabi.
Yes, I end up tweaking the addenda I will hand out in the next quarter as the current quarter progresses.
Hi Alesha,
As you gain in experience you will also find that you may be able to reduce the volume of your addendum because you will learn what and what not to address. You will become more focused on the requirements, expectations and policies of your course.
Gary
My first time addendum was 3 pages...I have heard stories of them growing to be double the length...I guess as I have more experience, more things will come up that need to be addressed in writing... :)
ADDENDUMS ARE A GREAT WAY TO SPECIFICALLY ADDRESS ALL ASPECTS OF YOUR COURSE. THIS WAY YOU CAN MINIMIZE STUDENT QUESTIONS AND STUDENT CONFUSION AND FRUSTRATION. ALSO, AFTER YOU HAVE TAUGHT A COURSE A NUMBER OF TIMES, YOU CAN KEEP ADDING NEW THINGS TO YOUR ADDENDUM AS THEY COME UP YEAR AFTER YEAR. AS AN EXAMPLE, MY ADDENDUM USED TO BE 3 PAGES; NOW, AFTER TEACHING FOR 8 YEARS, IT HAS GROWN TO 6 PAGES!
Addenums give me a chance to give to my students who are perfectionists a specific step by step direction to take to meet the class goals.
My addendum gives me the opportunity to personalize the class for me and to show the students my expectations as well as my schedule and pacing.
