Before Class

Before I visit my classroom ahead of time - Should I be asking myself is it big enough; does it have the technology I need; how can I arrange the seating; can everyone see the board?

I have the same room for each term where I teach, BUT every term IT seems to redo the computers, delete whatever content is in the raidzone (intranet file sharing), or the best one, it's a Technical school and some of the computers are down or not working right when the students try to login, VERY challenging stuff the first day of class.

Hi Karl,
Sounds simple, but planning and preparation is where it is at. Your example is a good one. As you say if you had not checked the projector before hand your class would have been delayed for a long period of time as you searched for another machine. As it was you were able to move right into the course content without any stress.

Sounds like the right questions! Everyday I make sure that the projector is working well ahead of time and I check that my white-board pens are not running dry. One time the projector was broken but I had enough time to remedy the situation before the class got there. It would have set us back quite a bit if I had only discovered the problem at the start of class.
