Do some group activities and projects that will have the new instructor interacting with the students immediately. The more conversation that can occur the quicker the students will be to accept the new instructor because they start to relate to the instructor on a human level.

If at all possible speak with the prior instructor to find out about some of their teaching techniques and the students. This can possibly help withthe transition of the instructors. Also you will be aware of what the previous instructor was doing and how your goals and expectations compare or differ.
