Making Expectations Clear
How do you make your expectations clear?
Being new to teaching that makes me feel alot better to be honest hearing that!
My first year of teaching was pretty rough, I had a lot of mix messages on setting expectations until chance upon one of the staff members and he said "there is no such thing as high expectation in education." Thanks Bob.
In addition if you have a student portal it is a good idea to post expectations/assignment descriptions/syllabi on the portal so the students can always access it and have no excuse.
Hi Rich,
Develop a well organized syllabus and the majority of your expectations will be contained in it. The first class meeting lay out your polices, requirements and expectations. This will create a foundation of knowledge from which the students can operate throughout the course. If there is a misunderstanding you can give your students a handout, send them an email and/or verbally discuss the misunderstanding. This way the expectations will be clear.
