The first class

I usually get really nervous when seeing new students in the classroom. Do you have any idea that I can relax to see them at the first day of class? I also would to know how I memorize the student name quickly. It is so hard for me to memorize their names.

I think everyone gets a little nervous on their first day, whether it's a brand new instructor or a seasoned veteran. I've found that what works for me is that I'll tell the class that most instructors are as nervous as their students on the first day - it makes us seem more human.

I did the same thing gave them just an overview of myself so they can feel comfortable with me and the class

Hi Sharon,
You did a good thing when you started with something you knew about and that was your career experiences. By talking about them you were able to calm the nerves and get yourself settled into the classroom. That is when you started on journey as an educator. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

On my first day i was very nervous. I introduced myself and told the students a little bit about me and how and why i became a massage therapist along with why iI decided to teach. Then I started going over the syllabus to start class. After that I was not as nervous.

Hi Masami,
Do an icebreaker when you start the class. This way the students are working on an activity and talking with each other for a few minutes as the class starts. This will help you get comfortable with the students and settle your nerves.
I use name tents (5X7 cards folded in half). The students put their names on these cards and put them in front of them on their desks. This way as they talk and I interact with them I am visually cuing myself as to their names. It is very long before you will have the names memorized and the name tents won't be needed.
