[Meeting the Class for the First Time]

Meeting the class for the first time can make an instructor very nervous. It is important to make a good impression (which is made as soon as the students meet you)in a very confident way. It is real easy to let the students intimidate the instructor one day one. Ice breakers for the class are good for the instructor and students to relax and get to know each other.

I have always expressed that within the first 30 seconds of meeting an individual thier opinion of you has already been determined. There may not be another opportunity to recreate the first impression, thus having to work harder to regain ground. Students need to understand that how they present themselves visually and physically wieghs on the decision as well. More often then not, there are students who feel that they are singled out, however do not see the big picture until they are in that very same position. Finding out where your students come from as well can help with getting to know them.
