Introductions
when I meet a class for the first time, I love the introductions-makes me feel like I actually get to know the students a little better
Hi Christina,
I like these sessions as well because the stories I hear about why students are back in school are inspiring and motivating. This gets me excited about having the opportunity to teach the upcoming course.

I do the same with my MA classes as well, usually I also like to add a little about my family. I use it and sometimes students will add about their children and that they are the main reason that the student is back in school.
I always find it interesting who goes to college for themselves or who goes back to better themselves for their children.

Hi Sherry,
Thanks for this insight. It really makes sense when given this perspective about the emotional level of investment that comes with this part of the medical field.

The main reason that people usually want to become a hygienist is that they like the medical field, the science, dealing with patients and helping people. Most of the time, hygiene is picked because its like nursing, however the hours are better, usually no "sickness" (vomiting, diareha, etc...) Losing a tooth is easier to deal with than losing a life.
Hi Sherry,
Good way to start a class. What is the main reason given for wanting to have a career in Dental Hygiene? Have always wondered how individuals make these kinds of selections. My sister is a dental hygienist and she wanted to be one since she was a middle school student and nothing was going to distract her from becoming one. She loves the field and all that she gets to do. Like to see people happy in their work.

I usually start a new class by introducing myself and why I choose my profession. Then I ask the students to introduce themselves and ask them to tell why the picked Dental Hygiene as a career.
Hi Sherry,
What kind of introductions and ice breakers do you use to start your classes? Thanks for you input on this.
