Meeting the Class for the First Time
During my first Module of teaching, I was somewhat nervouse, but over came before the end of class. I really enjoyed this module "Meeting the Class for the First Time".

This is a relaxed and informative way to start a new course. This way your students can get settled into the course while getting to know you and the other students.

On my first day of class of course I give a short introduction of my self then as I take list I ask the students to tell me about them, if the work where they work, etc and expectation from the class. Then I give a more info about my background, hand them the syllabus and talk about the class rules and my expectation.

When I have classes where I have had a number of students before I give a very quick background review and then share with the class some new information about my experiences. This way I inform the new students about my basic background and the previous students about new aspects of my career they didn't know about.

What do you do when you have already taught most of the students in several other classes,but there are those who don't know anything about you? It feels awkward to be telling most of the class something they have already known for quite some time.

This is a good way to establish your credentials while helping the students to get an idea of how you are going to conduct the class. In addition while you are making the introduction you are allowing them to get a feel for the class.

I always start my first by telling the students about myself and my career thys far. I feel this breaks the ice and shows them that their goals are reachable.
I like to tell the students a little something about myself and them have them do the same
I always require my students to speak briefly about themselves. Not only does this introduce them to me (and each other, if they're new), it also helps them feel comfortable about talking in class later.
I will tell the students a little about myself why I enjoy teaching. I will ask each student to introduce themselves to the class and tell the goals for them getting a education
i ENJOY MEETING MY CLASS FOR THE FIRST TIME. I NORMALLY HAVE A FIRM BEGINNING, AND I SET UP THE STANDARDS FOR THE CLASS. I INTRODUCE MYSELF, HAND OUT THE SYLLABUS, AND LET THEM INTRODUCE THEMSELVES. I THINK THAT IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE HAVE A MUTUAL UNDESTANDING OF WHAT THE CLASS IS ABOUT AND THE EXPECTATIONS. I FULLY EXPECT THEM TO BE SUCCESSFUL THOURGH OUT THE YEAR.
I enjoy meeting my classes for the first day. Sometimes I see old faces, but often I see new faces. I always like to have former students in the new class so they can help with the new students. For me,preparation is the key to a good first class.
