first day

what I have to do to be relax the first day o the class ?, for me is very hard .

Rolando,
This is an easy and comfortable way to get everyone settled into the course. They get to learn about you and their fellow students as well as seeing how you are going to conduct the class.

I usually have students introduce themselves and talk a little about what led them to the school or program. After they have all introduced themselves then I provide a little bit of my background. Everyone gets to hear a little bit about each other and become a little more comfortable, especially when they see that there are others in the class sharing similar backgrounds.

I have found over the years that introductions the first day is not only an ice breaker, it let's everyone else know just how busy life is in addition to taking on this new venture. This is very important because each student can see that we all are busy but we can do this.

Charlene,
I think this is a good way to help them get settled into the course and comfortable with each other. It also gives you time to get a "read" on the class so you can customize your approach to and for them.

On the first day of class I have my students introduce themselves and also say one thing that makes them unique. For some students this is easy and others have a harder time, but, it is really helpful in reducing anxiety and encouraging everyone to interact. Some students actually want to say 3 or 4 things that make them unique!

Yaima,
Have the students introduce themselves and then do an ice breaker activity. During the ice breaker activity the students will get to know each other, have some laughs, enjoy conversation while you are getting settled into the course. By the time the activity is completed you will be comfortable and your nerves will be more settled.
