Meeting the Class for the First Time

The tone you set on the first day of class determines how the rest of the class duration will be. First impressions is our last impression of who we are; it's important to leave a lasting impression on our students.

I agree that the first inpression is a lasting one. It is not only important to be on time the first day but each dand every day. As the students are very observant and will become followers quickly.

As an Instructor , the tone one sets at the beginning of the class and make students aware of the expectations and standards they have to meet plays a pivotal role in deciding as to how the rest of the class duration/ semester will go.

Gilbert,
Great to hear about how the course helped you as well as how you set the tone for the class. You now can build on this to create a supportive and positive learning environment.

Dr. Gary Meers

I recently met one of my new classes for the first time and was able to apply the technique acquired in recognizing "the group" which sought control of the activities in the class. My approach was to set the tone along the lines of the Institution's principles and policies and what would be expected of them as students. I felt happy that I was well equipped by this online program in handling the first session better and more professionally. The key to it all was the comprehensive preparation to present the first day requirements which included the syllabus, the outline of the lesson plan and the relevance of the material to the real work situation.
