Meeting the class for the first time
The process of first impressions is effective in nonverbal communication, class arrangement and your personal introduction help set the tone of classes
Amanda,
Things like this really help to get a class off to a fun start while the students are getting settled into the course. Thanks for sharing this strategy with us.

I like to give a personality test on the first day of class. It is a fun ice breaker and we discuss the different personalities of the students in the classroom and the best way to deal with issues with that class member.
Deborah,
So have I. A good way to get to know the students and develop a feel for the class that day.

Scott,
This approach helps everyone get settled into the course and feeling comfortable with the instructor.

While a personal greeting in a large lecture class might be difficult, I like the idea of greeting each student at the door- what a great first impression!
Cynthia,
I agree. A warm greeting really helps to set the stage for the upcoming class session and helps the students to get settled in.

I also think that it is very important to meet each student as they enter the classroom door. Giving eye-contact,a smile, and hand-shake makes the student feel welcome and valued.
Georgia,
Right you are. It is so much easier to progress forward with a positive first impression rather than spend time digging out of a hole caused by a negative impression.
